Alexandra "Alex" M. Peruta

Growing up in Connecticut and attending Choate Rosemary Hall boarding school, Alex then moved on to Williams College where she graduated with honors and a bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, and biochemistry. She then worked for a year at Yale University Medical School, and is currently a graduate student attending Harvard University.

Alex has over 8 years of tutoring experience, both as a teaching assistant at Williams College and as a private tutor to middle school, high school, college, and graduate students. Alex tutors many subjects, including advanced level math, science and English. At Williams College, she worked as a teaching assistant in biology, chemistry, and English. With teaching and managing experience in many different fields, Alex is ideally suited to help many students who come our way.

Alex has completed courses toward an Educational Consulting Certificate in Higher Education/Higher Education Administration from the University of California, Irvine, and is a member of the National Tutoring Association, College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA), the International Tutoring Association, and Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA). Her resourceful and versatile professional survey makes her an ideal candidate to run this premier tutoring company.

"When you do the common things in life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world." - George Washington Carver

Personal connections matter.

Before you embark on finding the "right fit" college, you first need to find the “right fit” consultant.

Any good consultant can chart a course using two-dimensional charts and rubrics. A great consultant embraces their clients in three dimensions by balancing a course of action with effective communication and thoughtful listening.

My ongoing professional development includes membership in the International Association for College Admission Counseling and Independent Educational Consultants Association. These two prestigious professional organizations hold their members to the highest standards of knowledge and integrity.  In addition to my own research and college visits, I actively expand my knowledge through training workshops, webinars, and conferences.  The vast network of fellow consultants and admissions personnel provides unlimited support, which is invaluable to my client families.

As an Independent Educational Consultant, I dedicate myself to my client families in the following ways:

  • An unbiased perspective about colleges and universities. There are thousands of 4-year colleges and universities in the USA and they all have something important to offer!

  • To educate students and parents on the importance of “right fit” schools and to help you find yours

  • To help students answer the all-important question, “What is my identity and how can I submit a college application that reflects the true me?”

  • To help students submit the most competitive application possible

  • No false hope or guarantees-instead, honest, objective feedback on a student’s chance of admittance

  • To help younger students discover their passions and build on them through activities, community service, and leadership opportunities

  • If warranted, advise students on the variety of options other than a traditional four-year college, including gap year, community college, programs overseas, and work colleges.

  • To maintain professional integrity as outlined in the IECA “Principals of Good Practice” guidelines.  http://www.iecaonline.com/pogp.html

  • To keep up to date on changes to the application process

  • To maintain client-consultant confidentiality, sharing information particular to my students only with permission, and only in order to best serve my clients’ needs

  • To attend training seminars and conferences in order to network with other consultants and participate in continuing education

  • Meet with Admissions personnel at conferences and during college tours, discussing issues relevant to college applications and their particular institution

  • Visit colleges, tour campuses, talk to students and meet with Admissions, giving my students a perspective that websites and books cannot offer, especially for international students

  • A commitment to reducing anxiety by reassuring students and parents that there are great options for everyone, and emphasizing that success is not based solely on admission to a particular college, but by a successful experience wherever a student chooses to attend.

DID YOU KNOW?
Pay careful attention to deadlines! Each college may have several different deadlines within the process-for applying, for submitting extra materials, and for financial aid. Deadlines for international students can be different, as well. Be sure to check the website of every college to which you are applying or contact Admissions for clarification.
